Driving Directions: Please click on Directions / Map
Where should I go when I arrive on campus for Registration?
A: Enter the campus through either the Pacific Coast Hwy entrance or the Malibu Canyon Road entrance. The Security Guard on duty will direct you to the “Special Programs Parking Lot.” (Click on
Directions and Map link).
Can I drive my own car to campus?
A: Yes, but your car will remain parked in a designated student parking lot all week. No one is permitted to leave campus for any reason once the seminar begins.
When will YCS begin? When will it be over?
A: YCS begins Monday morning, June 18th with registration between 7am – 8:30am.
(Eat first! Your meal plan does not begin until lunch).
The 5-day seminar will conclude after the Closing Banquet on Friday night, at approximately 9:30pm - NO
EXCEPTIONS.
Tell me more about the Closing Banquet.
A: Closing Banquet is the wonderfully memorable final event of the week, designed for the participants and their parents/guardians.
Each student is required to attend, and may invite as many as 2 guests to join them at a cost of $30 per guest.
Parents are strongly urged to attend. The dress for the evening is Business/Dinner attire: Coat and Tie, Dresses and Pantsuits.
Where will my family meet me on Friday evening?
A: You will be met in the Parking Lot of the Firestone Fieldhouse, Friday evening between 5:30-6:15 pm (see enclosed map).
What will my room on campus be like? What do I need to bring?
A: You will be living in Pepperdine’s single-sex dormitories; 2 students to a room, and 4 rooms to a suite.
This is not a hotel, so you must bring everything you will need including:
· sheets or sleeping bag
· pillow
· towel
· soap
· shampoo
· hair dryer
· hangers
· alarm clock, etc.
Will there be telephones in my dorm room to call home or receive messages?
A: No - there are no phones in the dorm rooms, but there are a number of pay phones around campus.
Please note: You will be very busy, and there are usually long lines at the pay phones. Messages can be left for you 24 hours a day at the Chancellor’s Office (310) 506-6073
What about cell phones?
A: We cannot tell you not to bring your cell phone, but we will suggest that you not count on using it. Not only is satellite reception in Malibu very unpredictable, your counselors will ask you to turn these devices “off” during sessions.
How can I be reached in an emergency?
A: In case of an emergency, your parents/guardian should call the Chancellor’s Office at (310) 506-4443 8am – 5pm, or Pepperdine Security at (310) 506-4700 5pm – 8am.
A designated individual on our staff can locate you 24 hours a day.
Please Note: You can receive mail at the Chancellor’s Office (address shown below.)
Who pays for the seminar?
A: All fixed costs have been provided by independent sponsors throughout the country (businesses, foundations, individuals and service organizations.) Travel related expenses to and from campus, and miscellaneous “spending money” are your responsibility.
How much money should I bring with me?
A: A $20.00 room-key deposit is required at check-in Monday morning (check or cash).
This $20 deposit will be returned to you at check-out Friday, provided your key is returned. No additional money is required. If you would like to bring money for the Bookstore or Vending Machines, we suggest that you bring no more than you can afford to lose.
What should I pack to wear each day?
A: A dress code will be strictly enforced. We ask that you pay close attention to the clothing guidelines on the enclosed
INFORMATION SHEET. This is a Leadership Seminar, please dress accordingly.
UN-acceptable clothing includes short shorts, t-shirts with logos, cropped-tops, “gang looking” apparel.
What if I have no way of getting to and from YCS?
A: If you are having trouble finding transportation, or need to carpool, the Chancellor’s Office will try and share names and phone numbers of participating students in your general area. It will be your responsibility to follow-up with them.
What if I am unable to attend YCS?
A: If you find that you are unable to attend the Seminar, you should contact the Chancellor’s Office immediately. Please know that you are our first choice, and there is no guarantee that another student from your school will be asked to replace you. Furthermore, if you drop out, your school may be required to wait-out a year before participating again. This is a very valuable opportunity you and your school have been offered; we hope you value it as such.
Can my friends and/or family come visit me during the week?
A: No, there will be no opportunity for you to entertain visitors.
Who should I contact with additional questions?
A: Please e-mail any and all, questions to Rocky@PepperdineYCS.com or contact the Chancellors Office at (310) 506-6073
